Millennium Green - Play Area

DESCRIPTION

This 3.7 acre site was created in 1997 using grants from the Millennium Commission. It was one of the first 25 pilot sites for Millennium Greens. The land was purchased by Hambleton DC for £50,000 and the site developed in partnership between Hambleton DC and Thirsk Town Council. A trustee body was established and this owns and has responsibility for the site. Millennium Greens were provided to be green lungs within towns and this influenced how the site developed with significant areas for wildlife. The site includes a small football goal post for informal games and a wooden adventure trail. The adventure trail consists of a clatter bridge, burma bridge, stepping logs, chair walk and spring balance beam. The area has paths, seats and bins. It is accessed from St. Mary’s Walk and Dowber Way and through the entrance via the East Thirsk Play Area. The area is the responsibility of the Trustees of the Millennium Green with financial assistance from Thirsk Town Council.
